Ouch, unmounted my mp3 player with umount -l and now it has frozen (lcd display is staticly showing the charging picture) and it won't start!
when booting I get error 71 when it tries to identify the drive..
Help, how can I fix this? :/ _________________ From Gentoo with love |

Seems like you accidently corrupted the filesystem on you mp3-Player. If your players firmware resides on the internal drive, it might well be fried and you most likely will need support; however, possibly you can re-initialize it using some tool the manufacturer provides. If not, you might well have a chance. First, try and see if the partition table is OK using fdisk or parted or a simliar tool. If it is, you can try fsck.vfat on the partition to correct any errors the lazy umount left (you shouldn't use umount -l in the first place). fsck.vfat is part of dosfstools.
If the partition table is broken, you can try to delete it and recreate a new table and a new fat32 partition. You might also do so if repairing the fs doesn't help. Before doing that, best google for your player model and try to find out if it fancies some specific partition layout... |

Ok it's up and running again (turned itself off after a days rest)
How should I umount it now to avoid these things in the future? _________________ From Gentoo with love |

Simply do a "umount" without "-l" |

Well that's the problem, it says that the device is busy. Can I check to see which processes are using the device somehow? _________________ From Gentoo with love |
