I solved the problem below by simpling 'touch'ing /usr/src/linux-2.5.67-mm3/include/linux/modversions.h.
I've recently installed kernel 2.5.67-mm3 and I have everything working fine except the nvidia drivers. I was able to compile the 4349 drivers but they crashed my system completely, and since I'm not too concerned with 3d performance I figured I'd back down to the 3123.
The relevant part of the error is

Any ideas why modversions.h would be missing in my kernel source or how I can get it?

Hmmm, I thought the kernel module interface had been radically altered somewhere in the middle of the 2.5.x versions - so the nvidia drivers wouldn't work, and there'll be no modversions.h, but I could be wrong. Are you getting acceleration?

| There are "unsupported" patches out that make it run beautifully on my system, using 2.5.67 currently. This includes full OpenGL support.. Check out the patches here at http://minion.de/ |
