|
|
Hello,
i'm spending a day installing xorg7 + xfce + xgl + etc.. So far i got it all running but the XGL features are not working. I have the window borders with shadows and my xfce4-panel is transparent, but no spinning cube, wobbly, etc...
I've been checking several things out, but i can't seem to find a solution.
While troubleshooting I looked back in the XGL Howto and tried running it on screen :1 for test purposes.
I noticed that when i:
Code: | Xgl :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv |
i get a new standard X grey window. Then i do:
Code: | LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ DISPLAY=:1 compiz gconf |
the standard grey X desktop turns black. Then i do:
Code: | DISPLAY=:1 gnome-window-decorator |
and it stays black (?!). When i finally call an application, for example a terminal:
Code: | DISPLAY=:1 terminal |
i end up with something like a terminal without borders. Screenshot
So i'm guessing that the install isn't entirely flawless, but i have no clue where to find the problem.
Any pointers would be helpfull, tia. _________________ i don't know what i want, but i want it now! |

Which compiz did you install? What's the output of gnome-window-decorator?
If you are using quinnstorm you need to be using cgwd instead. |

Code: |

I'm not using quinnstorm.
gnome-window-decorator output: nothing when i do it in the sequence that i mentioned in startpost (in the :1 display). When i run it in :0 it says: Code: | (gnome-window-decorator:3315): Wnck-WARNING **: Someone set _NET_DESKTOP_LAYOUT to 8 integers instead of 4 (3 is accepted for backwards compat)
|
but i don't think that's any useful..
!!! I just noticed that in the :1 display the cube works !!! _________________ i don't know what i want, but i want it now! |

OK, breakthrough! After re-emerging xgl & compiz, double checking all settings, etc...
Situation: boot pc -> xdm -> login with non-root regular user -> Xfce working, but no compiz or window borders
If I then open a terminal, su to root, and do everything is there. borders, wobbly, cube, etc...
Doing the above also gives me this error right after i execute it, but it keeps working:
Code: | compiz: SmcOpenConnection failed: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed |
Looks like a permission error to me..
But what or where, I followed te xgl howto to make the /usr/bin/compizrc and /usr/bin/startxgl files, chmod 755 them, made al the changes in xfce4-session files... _________________ i don't know what i want, but i want it now! |

Whole compizrc stuff and more from xgl howto is a bit outdated. I had problems starting XGL properly too following the howto, then tried with startxgl script from xgl-coffey overlay and everything was like it should be. Try that, if it works for you, you end up saving a lot of time. |
