hi all, just curious what kind of performance are you guys getting on wine ( 0.9.8 from portage) ?
my specs are:
Sempron 2400+, 1.6GHz
radeon9800 pro (ati 8.27.10 direct rendering)
768MB DDR dual channel
asus A7N8X-E deluxe nFORCE2

I am getting only 30ish FPS when there are like 20 people in the scene.
any tweak hints?

I don't run it with wine, cedega is what I run it with, and I get around 110FPS on it with my 6800GT. 30FPS seems to low for CS 1.6 especially with a 9800PRO.. the game based off of Half-Life 1 engine.... Wine or Windows it shouldn't matter..

exactally, that is the problem. Back in windows it runs very smooth 100FPS constantly.. in linux..just slow..

Yeah- try switching to Cedega.

It's really hit-or-miss with this type of stuff - sometimes Cedega runs excellent, sometimes Wine works better with your hardware/game combination.

Personally, I can run HL at around 100 fps under wine (Geforce4)... but it all depends on your hardware support.

Did you use Direct3D? Then try switching to OpenGL (which runs much better because of native support).
But I can't help any further, my Half-Life freezes everytime I start, regardless of the API :?.
