Hello. I just bought a new laptop - an Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi.
I'm not getting any audio from it, it's got an ICH7 audio chipset. No sound whatsoever. However, the module (snd-hda-intel) is loaded correctly and there's no problem on that front at all. Things SEEM to play fine, but no audio comes out of either the headphone jacks nor the built-in-speakers.
Any suggestions for tracking this down?

A lot of times, the device is actually muted by default. The best way to check this is to emerge alsautils if you haven't already. Then, run alsamixer. You will get a series of vertical bars. Use your arrow keys to switch between them. If the MASTER bar has no vertical coloring, then the device is muted. To unmute it, press the m key and then up arrow several times to increase the volume. You may have to unmute other boxes as well to get everything working. Press ESC to exit alsamixer. After a reboot, it may revert back to muted. There's a way to save the config so that it doesn't, but I can't remember how. |
