Hello I'm running vmware on my gentoo-desktop. I've an Canon MP370 multifunction printer/scanner. Under linux i can print with the turboprint drivers. But I can't use the scanner, because it is still not supportet by sane. So I would like to use it out of xp in vmware.
I've built everything which has to do with usb as modules and added all espect usbcore to /etc/hotplug/blacklist.
Then the virtualmachine see the printer, scanner and the builtin memorycardreader. So I was able to install the drivers under winxp. But when I want to print I see the "lovely" bluescreen and the virtual machine reboots.
The only thing wich made me suspect, was that xp shows the message an highspeed usb device is connected on a low speed usbcontroller - you want be able full speed.
Any hints how to get the mp370 working under vmware?

Hi,
I have a canon IP4200 and I have the same problem with vmware. I guess it depends from the USB EHCI driver. Unless you don't have SP2 installed on your windows, your USB 2.0 does not work correctly and so the printer also does not work correctly.
So that's the point I think

Which Version of VMware do you use ?
I´ve made the experience that my printer only works in VMWare 4.5 .
In VMWare 5.0 the printer is found, printjobs are starting but suddenly the USB connection gets lost and the Printjob is cancelled.
It doesn´t make a diffrerence if i choose the old or new USBCore in VMWares config.
Maybe this is related to your Problem. |

Hi,
I installed ServicePack 1, and my printer (canon ip4200) still doesn't work. So I guess it doesn't depend
on the ehci-driver. If I start a printing job I see a short blue screen and windows does a restart.
I use vmware version 5.5.1 build-19175.

It is a good thing I found this thread. I was just about to do the exact same thing: set up VMWare on Gentoo with a WinXP guest so I could print to my USB printer (even better, an IP4200 all the same).
Good thing I didn't waste a whole weekend on THAT.
It's a shame my IP4200 doesn't have better driver support. |

Hi,
maybe this link will help you. In any case it helps me!

Unfortunately printing on DVD's or CD's is not supported but apart from that I'm very happy with this ebuild.
