Hi,
The latest emerge --sync brought a linux-headers upgrade for me. Before going ahead I would like to know is it as simple as upgrading the headers? or does it involve other stuff? I saw this https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-486317-highlight-upgrade+linuxheaders.html thread. However am not very confident. Can somebody please throw some light on this.
Thanks a lot!

I recently upgraded to the 2.6.17 headers without any problems.
AFAIK there is nothing to worry about. |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. However, I am still confused. According to this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-487712-highlight-.html, he used emwrap.sh to build the entire toolchain after upgrading linux-headers. So can somebody please explain the correct procedure ?
1. Do I have to compile only gcc after upgrading linux-headers ?
2. Or I have to rebuild the toolchain after upgrading the linux-headers ?
3. Or I have to recompile my whole system just like we do for gcc upgrade ?
TIA

You don't have to do anything. If you just upgrade linux-headers everything will still work (same when you upgrade gcc). If you want to rebuild your system for maximum optimisation then go ahead and rebuild the entire toolchain. It's not necessary though. |
