i'm installing gentoo on a new harddrive. after emerge sync, i received a message telling me that a new version of portage was available, and i should update it. on 'emerge portage', i receive the following error message:
configure error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check.
!!! ERROR: sys-libs/ncurses-5.3-r1 failed.
!!! Function econf, Line 273, Exitcode 1
!!! econf failed. |

don't mind me i'm just an idiot. it's emerge -u system, not emerge portage. thankyou google . |

Im having the same problem...did u solve it?
New stage1 installation...after "emerge sync" I'm supposed to do "emerge system" but it fails as u describe...
?
