|
|
Hello,
We have Novell Zenworks installed which works great, however....
With the ever increasing hardware sheets from vendors, some technology is not supported on the current Linux.1 boot file, so changing this is a must.
Zenworks has 3 files: linux.1 (the kernel boot), linux.2 (the module environment, and any other scripts needed to run.. ) linux.3 (which is the file which runs the imaging engine, and any menus/automated rollout etc etc)
My problem is that I need to change the kernel version on linux.1 so that it is compatable with loading modules which support hardware in the linux.2 file.
Does anyone have any experience doing this at all?
I am about to attempt it, and it looks like all I need to do is build a new kernel to boot off, copy any scripts over from the old kernel to the new one, compile this into a bootable linux img file, re-compile any modules needed in linux.2 against the kernel version of linux.1 (any copy any other scripts back over), which should then allow me to run linux.3 and load whatever menus I need to image a workstation.
My issue is not compiling a kernel generally, but compiling this specifically for zenworks boot images. If this is doable, I am going to use my gentoo server to do this and compile the kernel and its module image. _________________ It said "Requires Windows XP or better"

I did have a go at this - created a new lniux.1 from my gentoo server, and then mounted the linux.2 as a loop device, moved in some modules compiled as the 2.6 kernel, then gziped it back up to linux.2 and put this on the pxe tftp location and tried a client machine.
Ran linux.1 ok but fell over when trying to extract the linux.2 image - "invalid compression format" errors.
There is some documentation on novells web site which goes through creating a linux.1 file, but for a 2.4 kernel. Ill have a look through this and see if i can make some headway. _________________ It said "Requires Windows XP or better"

I managed to sort this out
left now with some zenworks applications which are not working correctly - ornot doing what they are suposed to be doing. _________________ It said "Requires Windows XP or better"
