|
|
My fortune segfaults a lot. It seems to be at the same messages, and the same spots in them. This isn't really a problem, I don't use fortune all that much. But it does lead to some strange results.
The simplest example: Code: | oc@fantabus ~ $ fortune
Segmentation fault | I'm sure this is actually in some fortune file out there, but not in any of mine.
Another one: Code: | oc@fantabus ~ $ fortune
There are three ways to get something done:
(1) Do it yourself.
Segmentation fault | This one confirms the old saying; "If you want something done, do it yourself."
Also, the first characters of the last line are sometimes replaced by seemingly random characters, like so: Code: | [snip]
Man got to tell himself he understand.
h -- The Books of Bokonon | The "h" isn't supposed to be there, and there is a space missing. Sometimes there are more than one character like this.
Has anyone else seen this? I run utf8 and nls wherever possible, don't know if that has anything to do with it. _________________ PKA Cuber

hi,
that looks pretty weird, but without more info noone can help you... post your output of "emerge info".
Have you tried re-emerging fortune? Do other apps segfault? Maybe reduce your CFLAGS. Perhaps it's a problem with the locales? _________________ --

Thanks Strowi, but as I said, it's not really a big deal. No other segfaults, and I'm assuming it has something to do with NLS.
If anyone else gets the problem, they'll hopefully find this and we can put our minds together. Oh, and I'm running AMD64, by the way. So long. _________________ PKA Cuber

I get the random char problem quite often. I'm on x86 (i686 to be exact), with fairly standard CFLAGS. _________________ The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner. |

Ok, guess this is a bug somewhere then. I'll post a bug (severity trivial) about it. (Edit: Done) _________________ PKA Cuber

Upgrading to app-text/recode-3.6-r2 (~amd64) and games-misc/fortune-mod-1.99.1-r2 fixed both the random chars and the segfaults. _________________ PKA Cuber
