Hi,
I've put my /etc on another partition. But now I have trouble booting. My kernel gets booted but then he asks:
I tried entering a few, like 2, 3 and 5 but everytime I get something like "Nothing to do in this runlevel". I think a bit normal because he can't find the /etc folder to read the runlevels.
My question is now: can I tell the kernel in grub that my /etc is on another partition?
I boot the kernel with grub now like this:
Code: | root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz kernel=/dev/sda4 |

You will need to create an initrd/initramfs that mounts /etc before the init scripts run.
EDIT : Of course, I would consider doing this to be a big waste of time.

No.
There are only a few things really needed on your root filesystem - and /etc is one of them.
If you need to make room, move something else.
You have to have /bin, /sbin, /etc, /dev, /lib on /.
Everything else can be mounted from somewhere else.
But all of those are necessary to boot the machine.

Okay, thanks for your replies.
Just copied the data on the partition to my /etc on my root and rebooted. Worked like a charm, like suspected _________________ Ep2.nl | Developers Community |
