I was looking for a firewall GUI and I found FWBuilder, which seems to support everything that I want. However, I'm not sure what the differences are between ipchains and iptables and which one is better. Or are they just synonyms? Is there something a good description about these? I don't want to learn everything about it, just to make a decision (if there is one) which one to use and what I need.

Thanks!

kernel 2.6 -> iptables
kernel 2.4 -> ipchains

If you have iptables available, use them.

Iptables is also available in 2.4

Forget about ipchains and go for iptables with no hesitation.

Thank!

One other question. I installed fwbuilder now and it looks quite good. One reason I choose it was because I saw on the screenshots that it also support configuration of times. I was using the template 2 which gives two interfaces, eth0 for the outside and eth1 for the inside, and also forwards DHCP and DNS, which is exactly what I want. However, when I click on the timeconfiguration options the dialogs are always readonly. Do I have to do something special to enable this feature? Or does this only work, if I supply my own rules?
