Uhh. Bad Karma I smell it from here.
But you ask the wrong question. It is not about 40 peeps coordinating.
The issue in this context is if the pros and contras lead to one action (majority decides)
or if a possible minority thinks it is worth a try. And the decision is IMHO in favour for the last .
The cost for the project at hole depends on the agreelevel of the participants.
As I see it, we got with christle and me 5 people voluntaring on this Forum. Lets double since recruitment goes through women@gentoo.org. That makes 10 peeps volunteering to help.
10 peeps is still not much work to handle since they all seem Motivated.
And do not forget that we do not have to put on something for tomorrow. We can take the time that we need to make our decisions. (thought christle put on a tight roadmap )
So the driving things for this Project are:
vision, Motivation, Fun and creativity. Well of course these thing will vanish if the revenue is staying out. But I am sure we can generate some. _________________ quote from Spaceballs:

Frankly, i'm perplexed why some people perceive this as such a threatening idea. A lot of people are making sweeping generalizations about it that don't have any basis other than their own preconceived notions about what the project has to contribute. Given that the project is focused on getting women involved, I read this as those people assuming that women have nothing to contribute.
Try to think of how the average woman feels, though. Parents typically hold girls to some anachronistic ideal - play with dolls, cook, clean, wear pretty dresses, be a cheerleader, whatever. Even if a girl shows an inclination towards technology or "nerdy" things at a young age, they're often discouraged and directed back to those traditional activities. As they get older, they're laughed at or doubted if they try to participate in something considered traditionally male, whether it's sports or computer science. Once they reach the workforce, they often receive lower compensation for the same job as their male counterparts. When shopping with a guy, clerks often direct their questions, comments, money, and the receipt towards him, despite that she may have asked the question or taken out her wallet.
These things may not always happen, but they certainly happen often enough that it's flat-out naive to say that women should just get over it. The posts commenting on the mere idea of this project (mostly in the previous thread) have more than their share of sexist remarks, ranging from "women are less technical" to "women are emotionally fragile," which illustrates exactly why a group like this is both needed and beneficial to the community. Gentoo isn't just about programming and bug-hunting, folks. _________________ Gentoo 2.6.17-r4 AMD64 | AMD Athlon64 3200+ Manchester, 1GB Mushkin PC-3500 Black Hi-Perf Level II, Asus V9999GT 128MB |

@vibrokatana.
It is impossible to say where this will go. So i am just keeping all posibilities in mind. Sorry that you took this as a hint.
There is also a chance that tomorow all devs will go nuts and say that they drop Linux and use MS Vista.

You know what they say: when you assume...
I contacted Christel days ago about contributing. :p _________________ Gentoo 2.6.17-r4 AMD64 | AMD Athlon64 3200+ Manchester, 1GB Mushkin PC-3500 Black Hi-Perf Level II, Asus V9999GT 128MB |

On topic would be if you have questions about Gentoo Women Project or if you want to inform yourself how to paticipate.
If you have questions about the Project and stuff. Comunicating how we could bring Gentoo Women on the way would atm fit also in this thread.
Thats what I am thinking this thread is for. Basic stuff realy.

Sadly so. Yes But 2nd and hmm the other half on topic Posts were open matters from the old thread, which is closed. Dont think they will come up again. The point has been made. _________________ quote from Spaceballs:

Hmm, anyone got answers on their mails to christle or women at gentoo blah?
I hoped that christle had found some time to at least answer. She did not answer my posts. If I am not alone, I think I try to get christle to point on a second in command so we can start slowly to do the things we need to do. (Ieas colecting, planing on apearances, etc.)
Another thing.
I come up with the Idea to set up a gentoo women mailing list at yahoogroups or similar place. Maybe we can link different lists? I do not have experience in such things.
Why a unrelated Mailinglist?
The idea is to be visible beyond the boarders of Gentoo. A mailing list in a general public place like yahoo would make the gentoo women project visible to everyone that looks there. Which is something we might want to be since we can far easily reach the community itself by existing lists or this gorgeous Forum.
Comments?

christel (I talked to her on IRC #gentoo-userrel. Wanna talk to her, I'd suggest dropping in there. Best chance you got) is waiting a bit to give time to get invovled if they want, so that might be the reason for the delay. Giving people time to sign up before getting into things.
DOn't quote me on that, either. _________________ The day Microsoft makes a product that doesn't suck, is the day they make a vacuum cleaner. |

AFAIK, they are just waiting for more people to join the project. But I think you should get an invitation to the proclaimed meeting from christel within the next couple of days. |

Well. Thats no option atm since I can only access the net at work. Maybe it changes in one month or two. Work is improveing soon and I hope that I can have a private Internet connection then. At least I will be able to use a laptop and can see if I gain access in some coffeshop with access to a Hotspot in trade for buying one or two chocolate. I will definitly joining then, but for now I am limited to
usage only
But good to know that it is moving on in the backyard _________________ quote from Spaceballs:

guys,
from my experience with the 2 women in my house that uses gentoo ( my mom and my sis), all you need to do for them to be happy is to give them a MSN client better than the one billy does. for my mom gaim is enough, but for my sister as she has higher requirements i had to emerge amsn which felt more like windows. other than that, web browsing is important, and in this linux is far better than anything. and oh my, beryl is definitely the killer for attracting women, i swear i picked up a girl in starbucks last month just by showing off my cube! and when she asked me to do is on her laptop, i said sorry, its only for cool people and i got her number. so just to summerize,
1) IM clients (women talk alot)
2) easy and useful Web Browsing
3) looks! (beryl or compiz) <--here we have to fight off the Macs!! _________________ Regards,
Dritan
