|
|
I'm trying to setup my Gentoo box as a router for my home network, so today I bought a D-Link DFE-530TX+ (Rev. F1) to use as a second NIC. When I run lspci, I get:
Code: | 02:01.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6105 [Rhine-III] (rev 86) |
So I installed the VIA Rhine III driver (tried both built-in and as a module), but I can't seem to get it to work. Here is the boot output from dmesg:
Code: | ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:01.0[A] -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
eth1: VIA Rhine III at 0xeb006000, 00:15:e9:81:1f:3b, IRQ 22.
eth1: MII PHY found at address 1, status 0x7849 advertising 05e1 Link 0000.
eth1: link down
|
Every time I load the module, it always takes the link down immediately.
Here's the info for my onboard NIC:
Code: | e100: Intel(R) PRO/100 Network Driver, 3.5.10-k2-NAPI
e100: Copyright(c) 1999-2005 Intel Corporation
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:08.0[A] -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
e100: eth0: e100_probe: addr 0xeb005000, irq 16, MAC addr 00:20:ED:3A:8B:F2
|
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Okay, so upon unplugging my DSL modem from my onboard LAN and plugging it into my D-Link card, I suddenly got a green light on the network card. So my question is: do I need something special for my second NIC to act as an "uplink"? When I plug it in to either the WAN or Uplink ports on my old Linksys wireless router, it doesn't work. Do I need a crossover cable or something? |

The crossover cable did the trick. I haven't seen this posted in any of the HOWTOs, so I'll say it here: if you want your Gentoo system to be able to act as a router, and want to plug it in to a WAN or Uplink port somewhere else, you'll need a crossover cable. |
