Would it be possible to use Compiz over X.org with the ATi Proprietary DRI driver? It does have the required extension:
Code:
# glxinfo | grep -ie "texture.*pixmap"
    GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap, GLX_OML_swap_method,
Does this mean I shuld be able to use it?

Hi,

There are plenty of people running this configuration. Xgl doesn't require you have that GLX extension, but it's supposed to speed things up. You could have used the previous ATI driver release (with Xorg 7.0) as well under Xgl.

The Xgl HOWTO will tell you if your particular ATI card has any issues under Xgl.

I don't think he wants to use XGL... he is talking about AIGLX.

Henning Rogge, you're right, I didn't pick up on that.

Kenji Miyamoto, it can't hurt to try it out. But I haven't heard anything about others using the latest drivers under AIGLX. You might check the compiz forums to see if someone else has tried this with the latest ATI drivers, and what if any problems they have run into.

I still hope that we will get NVidia/ATI drivers with AIGLX soon... this way we could run Compiz without XGL (at least as long XGL cannot run without a nested X-Server). :D
