Hi
Im trying to install gentoo kernel 2.4.19-r4 with the radeon support loaded as a module (loaded through /etc/modules.autoload).
The card in the PB ist actually an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. My autoload file has just one line containing radeon.
On reboot bootstrapping goes ok and i can tell yaboot to boot. After loading the kernel i see tux flash on the screen for just a split second and then the screen goes blank.
after adding metalog to the boot runlevel all i get are two entries in the kernel log telling that all went well up to loading the keyboard:
Quote: | Jan 8 12:28:31 [kernel] Memory BAT mapping: BAT2=256Mb, BAT3=256Mb, residual: 256Mb
Jan 8 12:28:31 [kernel] Detected ADB keyboard, type ISO, swapping keys. |
any ideas on what to do next? I just don't seem to find anyone having my prob
TIA

Hmm there's a couple of options:
1) boot from the iso again and upgrade to the newer kernel (emerge rsync, emerge ppc-sources) and try it all again.
2) try setting either at yaboot command line or in our yaboot.conf video=ofonly as an append and see if its video driver problems
3) try passing video args to kernel like video=atyfb:1152x768-8@60 to force a proper video setting (Im not sure thats what you should use for a settin, just an example).
hope this helps

Ohh also metalog is not the best choice for debugging stuffs (it doesn't output right away but in chunks). you might try a different logger option |

You should update to newest kernel release (ppc-sources-r6) and try it out with xeasyconf (emerge xeasyconf) which should give you a working configuration.
Hope this helps, I dont have a readeon mobility machine to test on
but willing to take donations |
