Hi !
I would like to ask for help in very important matter : choosing laptop. Which laptop manufacturer is the best in your opinion, and which is not ? What type of equipment should it have to be 100% compatible with linux ? maybe there are any model, that is worth of my attention ( i`m looking for standard equipment, not necessarily for gaming ). It would be best if it is cheap also ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

It seems that lenovo is going to release a tinkpad t60p with Novell SLED preinstalled.
All Hardware is supported without the fingerprintreader. The Problem is, that 3000 $ is a lot of Money.
I'm using a Thinkpad t41p. It is a great Laptop and there can be loads of how-tos found in the www about installing Linux on it. All Hardware is supported, for the modem there is a driver, but I haven't tested. The same for the super-video out.
Generally I would say, if you not choose the latest hardware your on the save side. The x1000 chipset of ati is not supported by opensource drivers, only by the closed-source. If you don't want to play any games, a intel chipset with integrated graphic adapter would be an posibillity, it has a low powerconsumption and is supported pretty good. |

I've heard good things about Asus's laptops.
ASUS != ACER
Do not get them mixed up. Check out Asus's laptops next chance you get. |

In my experience, IBM ThinkPads are generally extremely well supported (not to mention well built). I've got a T41 that's coming up on 3 years, and I still love it. Absolutely *everything* works in Linux - on-screen display for volume/brightness/etc., wireless, you name it. My only complaint is that the Mobility Radeon 9000 with 32 MB ram isn't good enough to run XGL at 1400x1050 (it works smoothly for anything less, though). I'd take my trusty ThinkPad over any cheap dual-core laptop any day. |

Supposedly you can get the fingerprint scanner working, I haven't tried on mine yet, but I will.
