Encuentro algo extraño que no te deje utilizar eñes o acentos... pero en fin; Yo en mi distribución anterior (que también me pasaba esto mismo) lograba tener eñes/acentos editando el archivo ~/.inputrc en el que añadía:
| Code: | set horizontal-scroll-mode on
set meta-flag on
set output-meta on
set convert-meta off
"\e[3~"
"\e[4~"
"\e[1~"
"\e[2~"
"\e[5~"
"\e[6~" |
No sé si te servirá de ayudará, o si hay alguna solución mejor/más sencilla. Pero ahi te dejo eso.

una cosa se me olvido decir .. todo mi distro esta en ingles... hasta la configuracion del teclado ...
q es lo primero q deberia hacer?
poner en el key map "es" ?

Para "castellanizar" Gentoo:
Agregar al arxivo /etc/profile

Es conveniente poner la variable USE "nls" en el /etc/make.conf
Para configurar el teclado en castellano, agregar o modificar estas lineas en el /etc/rc.conf

Lo cual nose para que sirve en realidad?? (solo noté el cambio cuando utilice vim que ahora es en español)
