Wierd printer problem Canon iP1000

I just setup cups and emerged the bjfilter driver from https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128560 for my canon ip1000 printer.
When I printed the test page from cups' web admin page, I get the page with only the bottom half of most headings.
The headings according to my guesses are "Printer test page" , "xxageable Area", "Interpreter information" and "Printed using CUPS V1.1.x" The octogon and circle diagrams at the top of the page show up ok.

I then tried printing 10 plain text lines from vim, and lines 3,4, 7,8 were missing.

Is this a problem with the driver or is my printer broken?
