The strace looks similar to a problem I had, but I don't believe it was related to flash at all. It was corrected by a later compiz revision and had to do with my 64 bit install. (I found this out by reading the compile log, there were 2 warnings that were the cause of the segfault)

Are you running amd64 or are you running x86?

If you are running amd64, then is it possible for you to do a gdb and bt (backtrace) this? You'd have need to have compiled with features=nostrip.

Also, which version of compiz-quinnstorm are you running? I had problems with this specifically with the cvs, and with 13.51-52 if I remember correctly.

i had compiz-13.57 on a x86 system and everything was fine
had the animation plugin going realy cool

i appreeciate your help xanas3712 but, couldn't figure it out so
i figure my system is broken now so i might as well go for broke

i upgraded to xorg 7.1 with the new nvidia-drivers
setup sabayon overlay with layman and emerged beryl
and all it's dependancies,,, it's all working now

the new nvidia-drivers ROCKS,,, i got a 1000 fps increase in glxgears
zero@vger ~ $ glxgears
70484 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14096.671 FPS
70355 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14070.893 FPS
70223 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14044.485 FPS
70383 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14076.440 FPS
70379 frames in 5.0 seconds = 14075.648 FPS

Are we not using svn for overlay checkouts any more? Layman seems more confusing and I don't see any info about svn in the new wiki. Do I need to recheckout my overlay using layman to get the latest?

[sarcasm]Thanks for responding guys.[/sarcasm]

I'm still getting problems with the overlay as of late. I was able to do an emerge update but now my whole screen goes white when I log into gnome.

I am not able to emerge any more because of an error:
Code:
>>> Emerging (1 of 3) x11-base/xorg-server-1.1.1-r1 to /
!!! Manifest file not found: '/usr/local/portage/xgl-coffee/x11-base/xorg-server/Manifest'

I did an svn up but it didn't fix it.

xorg-server is no longer in the coffeebuzz overlay, you must be using an old revision...

It still gives me the error after removing it. Why didn't an svn up remove it if it is no longer in the overlay? How do I do it manually sense svn didn't do it?

You shouldn't remove xorg-server.. Without it you can't have an X session.. There is what was in the overlay and in portage...

I updated from compiz-quinnstorm-0.0.13.57 to 0.0.13.57-r1 yesterday, and since then when compiz starts, the screen goes completely white. Because of this, I have yet to get any output so I can't further identify the problem. And just to make it harder, it seems 13.57 has been removed from the overlay. However I did downgrade to 13.56 and it does the same. I recently updated xgl as well, which I will try to downgrade. Does anyone have any insight into the problem?

Just emerge the 1.4.7 of glproto...

emerge -1 =glproto-1.4.7

It seems there are some problems between XGL/compiz and glproto-1.4.8

What?

Thanks for the help, but I do not understand what you are getting at. If you are saying to just use the one in portage instead of the overlay then why is it even still in the overlay? Seems kind of pointless to keep something in it and force people to figure out a way around it.

In my case I solved the white screen downgrading xgl version from 0.0.1_pre20060928 to 0.0.1_pre20060823-r1. So I put x11-base/xgl-0.0.1_pre20060928 in my /etc/portage/package.mask.

Dang, didn't work for me. It seems that it doesn't turn white until compiz is loaded so I am downgrading compiz at the moment to see if that fixes it.

BTW, who is in charge of the overlay? It is still messed up. It would be nice to get it fixed soon, it has been a couple of days now.

Ok, the white screen is gone now after I went down to a previous version of glproto and reemerged xgl. Thanks to another thread for that.

It's somehow weird all these problems with the white screen, I have no problems with the latest glproto but I had with the latest xgl version. Now, with beryl-core, I had to upgrade to the latest xgl again to solve that problem. Maybe it depends on the system architecture, I'm running on x86_64.

I had the white screen problem too but only with beryl-manager. If I use follwing:
Code:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib beryl-start

everything works just fine. Rather strange.

I had the white screen problem whit compiz-quinnstorm and glproto 1.4.8, downgrading glproto to 1.4.7 fixed it.

Beryl works fine with glproto 1.4.8 for me..

The overlay currently has a little problem. I kept trying to update beryl-core, but it told me there was no ebuild for beryl-plugins. I racked my brain and my computer over this, messed with my overlays, etc. Finally I realized the problem. The dependency in beryl-core is for "x11-misc/beryl-plugins". However, the ebuild in the overlay is "x11-plugins/beryl-plugins." So I copied the folder from the x11-plugins folder to the x11-misc folder, and all is well again. Is there a way I can alert someone who can change this in the overlay?

Hi people, i have some trouble getting XGL to work again after a fresh gentoo install i did. I followed the wiki and chose to use beryl instead of compliz. I launch XGL using:

Code:
Xgl :1 -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:pbuffer

(ati card)

and beryl with:

Code:
DISPLAY=:1 dbus-launch beryl-manager

to have XGL in a seperate window.

The thing is that menus are toooooooooo slow to apear, e.g. right click on a new kde desktop takes ages, typing in xterm also is bad and so on. Effects like cube, moving, minimizing work good.
Is there something i'm missing here??
Code:

hydra ~ # ps -A|grep be
32592 ?        00:00:00 beryl-manager
32657 ?        00:00:00 beryl-xgl

hydra ~ # ps -A|grep eme
32644 ?        00:00:00 emerald

This is the output from beryl:

Code:

** (beryl-manager:32592): WARNING **: Couldn't open /proc//environ

** (beryl-manager:32592): WARNING **: Couldn't open /proc//environ

** (beryl-manager:32592): WARNING **: Couldn't open /proc//environ

** (beryl-manager:32592): WARNING **: Couldn't find a Selection Owner, perhaps no WM running?
Otherwise, manually kill your wm, and report the bug to the developers, it doesn't follow the standards.
Falling back to looking for a defined WM in xlsclients.

Any help pliz?

I forgot to mention that i'm using fglrx driver:

Code:
hydra birbilakos # /opt/ati/bin/fglrxinfo
display: :0.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON 9700 Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.5946 (8.27.10)

and

Code:
hydra birbilakos # glxinfo |grep direct
direct rendering: Yes

Any ideas???

XGL + KDE + fglrx + not running compiz/beryl = 100% CPU usage.

And as you can see, your compiz/beryl didn't started due error "Couldn't open /proc//environ".
