This is somewhat of a belated announcement on the forums. Some of you might of noticed a new project with the userrelations group. Called of all things Adopt-a-dev. Its a project that allows developers to request hardward for the the express purpose of filling a need and or improving the general development equipment that the developers use.
The project page has been up for a while now and has already been far more sucessful then I have ever imagined. Currently we have a limit on items that are limited to 100 bucks or less as we wanted to make sure that it would be sucessful. So if you have things that you arn't using anymore or perhaps want to help out in another way directly to the development of the project. This is another way to do it.
As you can see as well, the items offered and accepted are quite varied and diverse. So please check this site periodically to see if you have something a developer could use, or perhaps raid your supply closet of computer parts to support the project and get a piece of hardware in use again.
Thank you to all the people who've donated and who will continue to give their time and monitary contributions to make Gentoo what it is. _________________ I'm not afraid of happy endings, just afraid my life wont work that way. |

Is there a relatively uncomplicated way of determining any given developer's contributions? I would imagine some would be willing to donate if they had some level of assurance that the developer was likely to contribute significantly (and in proportion to the cost of the item).
Also, for the somewhat more pricey items ($75-$100+), is there a way to have an item sent to another dev before they retire?
Thanks! _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

There isn't really a uncomplicated way to determine the worth of a developers contributions, nor do I think we should be playing a who's more valuable to the project. The basic requirement is that they've been a developer longer then 6 months. This generally means that they are not going to fly the day after they get the item from a user.
As well on the items of greater value, we believe that we should trust the developers to do what would be best for the project. We hope and suggest that they pass items on to other people who could make use of them if they do go to retire, however as I said we need to trust each other in this project as we trust each other to handle the tree without breaking it. If we bring doubt into it then that would be far worse then anything else that could happen. _________________ I'm not afraid of happy endings, just afraid my life wont work that way. |
