I tried emerging kde several times, but everytime it freezes (and I have to shutdown my computer uncleanly) my computer. It seems to happen while its compiling kdelibs-3.1.1a. Does anyone know what could be the problem?
Is it possible to emerge the binaries for KDE? |

Not too sure if this helps or not, but I had problems compling XFree86, turned out my mainboard (ECS K7S5A) didn't like the 256MB DIMM in there (Didn't mind the previous on in there!!), changed it for a 512MB one, worked, then gnome failed so I pop'ed in some DDR and everything has been fine since
Do you have any spare sticks of RAM about?
You could try slowing down the memory timings in the BIOS.
CPU Overclocked? |

I compiled Xfree and gnome without problems,so I don't know why kde is giving problems. My CPU is not overclocked. Well,I could buy more ram,but cant solve the problem software-wise?
Maybe I should get rid of the opmtimalisation while I compile kde? |

After experiencing the same problem with a few large emerges, I found that after rebooting the system would pick up where it left off. My system isn't overclocked either, but it is working with only 128M ram. |

I know that it picks up where it crashed, but it keeps crashing ever time I emerge kde,at the same point. |

You should check your system and make sure there are not overheat problems, they are the major lockup cause during compilation.
You might want to do some tests. _________________ I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. |
