This is my dmesg:

Quote:
usb 1-1.4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
hub 1-1.4:1.0: USB hub found
hub 1-1.4:1.0: 2 ports detected
usb 1-1.4.2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9
usb 1-1.4.1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 10
scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
usb-storage: device found at 10
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Vendor: HL-DT-ST Model: DVDRRW GSA-5169D Rev: 1.00
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 00
sr1: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Attached scsi CD-ROM sr1 at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
Attached scsi generic sg0 at scsi1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 5
usb-storage: device scan complete

This is the option im trying to use to mount it:
Quote:
genbox ~ # mount -o rw /dev/sr0 /mnt/dvdrw/

This is the result:
Quote:
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/sr0: can't read superblock

Why cant I mount it with read/write abilities? Im trying to burn a DVD in Gnomebaker and it produces this:
Quote:
:-( unable to open64("/dev/sr0",O_RDONLY): Permission denied

Does anyone know how to get around this? My local user is also a member of cdrom/cdrw (just incase it makes a difference to writing dvd's but i doubt it..?)

Thanks.

Also, you can't write to a CD/DVD the same way you do to a normal disk. It needs to be done by special software, and you most certainly can't just add and delete files as you please. ;)

Um... ok. But i nerolinux doesnt find the DVDwriter, (it seems to think the device is sg0) and Gnomebaker spits that error at me whether i mount the DVD or not.

check out pktdvdrw

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Packet_Writing_on_CD-RW

This lets you mount (rewritable) cd's and dvd's like a harddisk or usb stick.
