|
|
Well, a while back I blew up my case. Sparks and everything. It was cool to watch, but it made my room smell bad and my computer useless.
Fast forward to today. I get a new PC just like the old one. Now then, because the parts were in the case when it blew up, I didn't think my old ATI card with the open-sourced drivers or my WRT54GS would work.
Surprise! the ATI card works like a champ.
Now then, I notice that my WRT54GS is sticking out of my case. So I open it up, push the card in and close the case. When I turn it on, nothing happens. It sits on a blank screen. So, I decided to check the only piece of hardware I changed between the successful boot up and the dud one. The WRT54GS, when I went to take it out, freaking BURNED MY THUMB because it was so hot. I thought, "That can't be a good sign." I let it cool off and tried it again, but with the exact same results (and an agitation of said burn). So, is this happening because my card is damaged from the old case's explosion? Or do I need to upgrade my bios (Compaq Deskpro EN P1.0GHz)? Any suggestions? |

Some suggestions: get a new card, do not blow it up; do not use the old card as it would seem to be damaged and its use could damage other components in a system into which it was installed. |

WRT54GS? Thats a WiFi router, right? Like this one.
Why would you want to place that inside a computer?
Also please tell how you managed to make the old case explode. Sounds like a fun story. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

Sounds like he meant the WMP54GS card instead, which is unfortunate timing if it was the earlier version, as they just got drivers in the kernel for their Broadcom chipsets. |

To make my computer explode, I took an old Compaq motherboard and put it in a custom case, turned it on and it went BOOM. It could've been that I tried to juice it with a 700 watt power supply...
And yeah, it was the old version. Oh well, time to go hunting for it again. |

Or that, being an OEM board, it didn't use a normal ATX connector.. |

Why didn't you use the original PSU from the board? |

Ah, didn't realize there as a card version, and a brief googling only turned up only the boxed thing.
Sorry bout that. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

Can anybody recommend a good, preferably natively-supported USB wireless dongle? |

I can't recommend any device which has something to do with networking + USB together (only PCI/PCMCIA/FW) ![Confused :?](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) _________________ 1st use 'Search' & lastly add [Solved] to
