Well I've done EVMS expand a few times always backing up data and things went so smoothly this time I didn't bother with a backup this time... that was my first mistake.

Somehow I started the expand in the evmsgui and I look away and came back a few minutes later and the system was locked up. Conky said evmsgui was using 1.8GB of memory (all lmy ram + swap). I coudln't do ctrl+alt+F1 or ping the machien so I said whatever and rebooted. During boot EVMS activate started adn said an expand was interupted and it was restoring its previous state... and then it sat there for 5 minutes and then it printed out a line that it got killed or something. System finished booting, evms wasn't running (no /dev/evms), I did evms_activate and now all the things activate but the array I was expanding has no information.

Shows up as /dev/evms/md/md0... had lvm2 and all that crap on there, none of it is showing up.

Had an XFS file system on there, anything to try to get something back? Or am I totaly fucked for sure?

Yay maybe its not all destroyed!

EVMS doesn't seem to know its there however.

Its listing it as /dev/evms/md/md0

I tried to do 'xfs_repair /dev/evms/md/md0' to see if it would even say it could find any xfs stuff but it just ran and ran and I went to see Little Miss Sunshine (funny movie btw) and I got back and its still not finding anything useful.

So then I installed all the lvm2 utilities and tried the scans out:

bexus bexamous # pvscan
PV /dev/md3 VG array lvm2 [698.62 GB / 0 free]
PV /dev/md1 VG array03 lvm2 [465.75 GB / 0 free]
PV /dev/md0 VG array02 lvm2 [698.62 GB / 232.88 GB free]
Total: 3 [1.82 TB] / in use: 3 [1.82 TB] / in no VG: 0 [0 ]
bexus bexamous # vgscan
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
Found volume group "array" using metadata type lvm2
Found volume group "array03" using metadata type lvm2
Found volume group "array02" using metadata type lvm2

EVMS is not finding all three arrays, one it says doesn't exist, but the lvm2 utilities see the missing array... so...

bexus bexamous # vgchange -a e array02
1 logical volume(s) in volume group "array02" now active

bexus bexamous # mount /dev/array02/array02 /home/array02

and it works!

I think I'm just going to back it all up and then redo this whole thing in EVMS, but any ideas why EVMS cannot detect the volume groups and all?
