we had a power blip yesterday and afterwords my daughters system took forever to boot, i hit reset and it did the same thing. just freezes on X startup.
I got sshd working on it which was a blessing because typing directly on her system was slow. even with X shutdown hdparam was saying 9mb in 2.4 seconds, normally it would be 130mb in 2.
at some point in the night ssh dropped out and her system was unresponsive so I just turned it off and continued to research what the heck could be going on. finally I turned it back on to check for bad segments on the drive and low and behold:
IT BOOTS NORMAL!!!!!
ok well lets check it anyways drop to init 1
fsck /dev/hda3
result all is well!
ok well back to init3
system did not like that said it cant find anything, oh i forgot to remount.
system claims it is mounted well ok
reboot
>>>>
slow as molassis again
turn it off
turn it on a few minutes later and all is well again
think the mobo is on its last leg but im not sure _________________ I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success...
