I have done a search of this issue and have found very little help. I have a Toshiba TE2000 laptop with built in wirelss that uses the orinoco module. I have turned the wireless card on, started the modules:

eth0 is my built in network card. I have tried to make a link to lo.net but when I try to start eth1 I am told it does not exist. This is a fresh install using the GUI live cd. It did not find it then but I was not concerned with it at that point. I have also modified my /etc/conf.d/net. Does anyone know how I can get this to work?

Show us the output of lspci. If you don't have lspci, then emerge pciutils.

Your machine is not even recognizing the wireless. You have to get the wireless card to show up in lspci before you can hope to configure it. I see that your machine uses the ALi chipset, so make certain that it is fully built into the kernel. Also, try removing ACPI support. Sometimes that can affect detection of wireless cards.

In your kernel, look for PCMCIA. My Toshiba notebook with Orinoco card uses PCMCIA...

You have to enable the good PCMCIA driver in the kernel, then you will see your card in the Wireless section.

Good luck!
