I installed from stage 1. After everything finished, Xfree was not installed. So I did an emerge Xfree. After a long long time, I did /etc/X11/XF86Config and it says "permission denied" even though I'm on as root. What's going on? I never got this problem before |

This is because /etc/X11/XF86Config doesn't have the execute permission enabled... and rightly so because it's the configuration file. Presumably: startx is the command you're looking for. _________________ Screenshot |

It doesn't matter who you are when you try to execute files that are not executable or even binaries for that matter. What is the quoted even supposed to accomplish? _________________ Screenshot |

when I did /etc/.../XF86Config, I was brought into a screen that took me through a step by step process to setup my screen, mouse, keyboard, etc. |

You're thinking of
Code: | /usr/X11R6/bin/xf86config |
However, rather than using that script (which I found to be rather outdated last time I used it,) I would suggest manually configuring your XFree server by doing a
Code: | nano /etc/X11/XF86Config |
Althought it may seem more difficult at first, knowing exactly how your XFree is configured can save you many problems later on. |
