This was debated in this previous post, I tried it out but it did not work out fine (it was for the wrong version but given the similar symptoms I gave it a shot).
As in the object, I just emerged xfree 4.3.0-r2, ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86", but mozilla does not like it. Furthermore all fonts in KDE lost antialiasing. Well, not all: OpenOffice Writer still looks fine, and in the control center-> system administration-> font installer they look great. It would seem my user's authorisation problem about something if it were not that also the kdm login screen has crippled fonts.
I can't help thinking about that OpenOffice has his own font manager and this may be a trail... hmm.
Until now I installed libsdl-1.2.5-r2 (I had r1), reinstalled fontconfig, removed xft2 that was supposed to be masked by xfree 4.3.0, etc-updated all that was to be etc-updated.
When I start mozilla from the konsole, I just get back to the promp after a few seconds, no error messages; happens also if I try as root.
In the control center I get a crash every time I try to change the antialiasing options (in Look and Themes-> Fonts), no matter how I change them.
Is there a catch, maybe in XF86Config?
Cheers,

Just to add panic: decided to reinstall from scratch.
Still ugly fonts, still mozilla dead. Well, it did resurrect just once, then died again after I installed the italian translation from the mozilla website. Wonder whether there is a connection.
Me begin hate xfree 4.3. Grunt. _________________ Why is everybody always generalising? |
