On my laptop I had installed xorg 7.1 before I knew about the binary driver breakage, then after downgrading to 7.0 it worked fine. Now, on my desktop which was in a closet for three months, I upgraded the system from gcc 3.4 to 4.1.1, and I upgraded xorg to 7.0. I use nvidia-drivers 8762-r1. I still have OpenGL broken like it was in 7.1 on my laptop! I don't know what to do now, I've rebuilt all the packages associated with xorg 7.1. Here is some info on my system below; I am stuck, I don't know what else I need to do to fix this. (The effect I get is in OpenGL, like in enemy territory, when I move around, textures "lag" and the screen is very messy; exactly like in xorg 7.1.)

Not sure what was wrong, but I downgraded nvidia kernel/glx to 81xx series. It works fine now. I have no idea why the two versions after it are problematic. I had the next to last version in package.mask, looks like I have to add the current version there too as it doesn't work for me.

Well thanks to nvidia-drivers being released, nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx were phased out. And I still had my problem. Luckily I stumbled upon my solution! After looking through options in nvidia-settings, there is something about enabling VBlank, and that feature solved the problem.
