Hi,
ich kenne mich mit X-Server, xorg, gnome, xdm usw garnicht aus.
Ich war froh als xorg 6.9 lief doch nach Systemupdate auf 7.0 bin ich etwas ratlos.
Also:
Ich starte meinen X-Server mit startx ^^.
Als Login-Manager??? starte ich /etc/init.d/xdm bzw habs über rc-update automatisch.
Durch ein Howto habe ich in /etc/rc.conf den Displaymanager auf:

Wenn ich jetzt startx eingebe, kommt folgende Meldung:
Möchten Sie GDM_Failsafe.XTERM.desktop zur Vorgabe für künftige Sitzungen machen?
Ihr bevorzugter Sitzungstyp GNOME ist auf diesem Rechner nicht installiert.
Dann mache ich "Nur anmelden", dann kracht mir schonmal mein x11vnc weg, welches ich mit " x11vnc -rfbauth /root/.vnc/passwd -display :0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth
" gestartet habe.
Dann braucht Gnome extrem lange um hochzufahren.
Dann kommt:
Die Einstellungen der X-Systemtastatur weichen von Ihren momentanen GNOME-Tastatureinstellungen ab. Welchen Satz wollen Sie verwenden?
Ich nehme GNOME, dann dauerts wieder ewig.
Allgemein brauchen Applikationen ewig zum starten und reagieren auch träge.
Verzeiht mir, dass ich nicht viel mit x, gdm, gnome usw. anfangen kann, da ich bisher immer auf der shell gearbeitet habe.
Lief alles einwandfrei vor Systemupdate. Habe auch gcc aktuallisiert nach Anleitung mit revdep-rebuild usw.
Habe damals auch viel in verschiedenen Config-Files rumgepopelt, da ich das @, und | nicht in den Programmen bzw. der Konsole hatte.
Kann mir jemand etwas auf die Sprünge helfen?

Also ich starte hier xdm und in /etc/rc.conf hab ich DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" und XSESSION="kde-3.5"
Sieh mal in /etc/X11/Sessions nach. Bei mir steht dort Gnome. Eventuell hast du ein Problem damit, das in der rc.conf Groß- und Kleinschreibung eine Rolle spielt. Ich habs nicht ausprobiert, ist nur so eine Vermutung. Also einfach mal nachsehen wie die Session heißen muß.

Hi,
hatte das schon auf Gnome angepasst, sry.
Fenstermanager läuft xdm nicht, muss gdm nehmen.
Es kommt auch nur noch dieser Fehler:

Und die grafische Oberfläche startet extrem langsam, kickt mein VNC nach Login und ist extrem träge. Das starten der Konsole dauert bis zu einer Minute ^^.

Jetzt kommt ein neuer Fehler

Wo kann ich denn überhaupt die Gnome Einstellungen setzen?
Auflösung gibts weiterhin nur 640x480.

Sind die einzigen Fehler die ich gefunden habe in den Logs, wobei diese eher auf X11vnc zurückzuführen sind.

Starte doch einfach mal aus der root console /etc/init.d/xdm mit

Also ein NVIDIA Problem?
Hab die Treiber von der NVIDIA-Hompegae genommen und mit nvidia-installer --update die neusten Treiber installiert und Kernel gepatched. |

Versuch mal in deiner Monitor Section Modelines für die von dir bevorzugte Auflösung anzugeben.
Die kannst du dir mit

Außerdem würd ich mal noch einen Blick in die Dokumentation der Nvidia-Treiber werfen. Da gibt es zum Beispiel noch die Möglichkeit dem Treiber zu sagen, das er nicht versuchen soll mittels EDID den Monitor abzufragen. Oder man kann manuell angeben, was für ein Monitor angeschlossen ist.
