EDIT: I use fuse with sshfs now which works really well for my needs. Setup is a breeze (easier than samba  ), the transfer speed is high, and most important for me I can watch video files located on the headless box with other players than kplayer (the only one supporting the fish:// kio slave) and enjoy seeking in the file now, too.

I rather often transfer large files from one box to another over a LAN in kde using fish://.
The situation is that if I use fish:// to connect from my laptop to my old desktop (which is headless) i never get higher speeds than 1.2 MBytes/second. Now, the funny thing is, that one time I was logged in the headless box via NX and used fish:// to connect form my old desktop to my laptop (the other way around) and wham, I get much higher transfer speeds (5x approx.) :? And this observation is consistent.

Does anyone know why this could be so (ssh config, kernel)?

Thanks, Val.
