Hi,
I've recently purchased a DSL modem (with service :)),
but I have run into some problems connecting with my
printer over a network. When I had my old router, the
KDE printer dialog worked fine: i.e. it scanned the network
and found my printer. However, there's no such luck with this
modem/router. The modem has wireless, and four ethernet ports.
The printer's network light is on, and the router shows that the
port the printer is connected to is active.

My printer is an hp psc 2500.

I was thinking that I should maybe just get a tool to scan
my network and find the printer, but I don't really know how
to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
kinghunter4

You may want to look at the subnets everything is on. The printer must be on the same subnet as your computer.

Look at the "eth0" ipaddress if you go to a terminal and type ifconfig -a
It may have changed from 192.168.1.x to 10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x or 169.x.x.x

If the printer is using an old IP address, but your computer is using a different one (must be the same as the Modem I think), then it may cause your printer to not show up.

You may want to look at your printer's options screen for setting the IP address...

You may also want to to type in ping -b 255.255.255.255 and see what computers respond. You might actually need ping -b x.x.x.255 where x.x.x match the first three digits of your IP address like 192.168.1 or 10.0.0

You can also try things like disconnecting from PPPoE/DSL first, or looking for configuration options for your modem.
