|
|
Well, I know there are posts about this, but suffice to say I really don't have the patience to read through 158 (at current) posts about bootsplash.
I know others were having problems like this (I did read a few pages..)
But, does anyone know why /proc/splash isn't existing?
I'm just using vanilla-sources 2.4.20, everything is configured properly.. when I reboot (if it were working, say) with a correct grub.conf, it goes to load the bootsplash but then just stops in a scrambled mess at the bottom of my screen
Anyways, any help is appreciated.. thx. _________________ :: soroh -*~ |

Your solution is in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=49036
Some users has said that by modifying theire grub.conf in some way the /proc/splash will be created.
Heres my grub.conf.
Code: | default 0
timeout 15
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Gentoo GNU/Linux 1.4 [gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3]
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage-21april root=/dev/hda2 hdc=ide-scsi vga=0x317 video=vesa:1024x768@72
initrd=/boot/initrd-1024x768
title=Gentoo Linux Old [backup working kernel]
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/bzImage-16april root=/dev/hda2 |

Pretty sure grub.conf is not related to /proc/splash at all. /proc/splash is getting created by the kernal. If it is not showing up, it is most likey something wrong with the kernel you compiled. |

Whew.
Well, I'm at work now..
I was up from around 4-12 doing this sh*t.
Turns out it was the User address space size that I read about somewhere.
Vanilla-Sources, funny enough, doesn't have this. :-\
So I installed pfeifer. But pfeifer was kernel panic'n me!
So I installed gentoo-sources. Same thing! D:
Then I, out of all the posts around, read one that said something like "emerge iptables after going to 2.4.20" .. it was like a one of a kind post, someone just tossed it in there, whoever you are :-p
So I did that.. and it's all working nice now.. but I don't think having no sleep and working 8hrs now was worth it ;o
Having problems with Xfree 4.3 now, and nvidia 4349.. but I'll sort that out. (upgraded xfree & nvidia, now xfree won't boot.. just black screen.. yes I've re-ran xf86config)
