|
|
I want to setup dual monitors, I have a CRT monitor that can do 1600x1200 and I plan to buy a second from my brother (it's a
Viewsonic PF775).
I'd like a single AGP card to drive the pair of monitors, preferably at full resolution. I've been considering getting either a Matrox card or an nvidia card.
I don't care much about playing games or 3-D graphics.
Based on the website, it looks like the Matrox card will do what I want. I have been unable to find any documentation for nvidia based cards that describes the maximum resolution available in dual-head mode. So currently, I am leaning toward the Matrox.
Does anyone have any opinions or experience? |

I have been using G550's on x86 and AMD64 boxes for many years without any problem at all.
2x1600x1200 on a 19" Iiyama VMPro 450 and a 17" VM Pro 413
I was very surprised to find the 17" very much usable at this resolution.
FYI, I use free drivers exclusively, i.e. nothing from Matrox.

thanks for the response, neysx
I decided on a matrox g450 because of the price. It is "free" from
TigerDirect. Here "free" means $10 minus a $10 rebate, not including shipping & taxes (ie. cheap)
According to their website, it sounds like the g450 will do what I want. It only has 16MB ram, which makes me a little nervous, but I don't care about 3-D or having 32 bit color. Anyway, if it doesn't work, it is not a huge financial loss.
This deal should be there until Sept 30th... |

| I upgraded from a G400 years ago to get 1600x1200 on the 2nd head.
Both G550 & G450 can manage that.
Good luck with your G450 |
