Ok,
I really need help here. I want to install Gentoo & Ubuntu on my system. It's an Intel Centrino Core Duo with Intel 945 chipset. The Ubuntu LiveCD won't boot, neither won't the Gentoo LiveCD. The Gentoo LiceCD works only when I'm using the "nodetect" option. By trying and trying I now finally found out that the "hwsetup" program causes the system to hang - and I bet Ubuntu uses the same to detect all hardware. I know for sure that the 8139too module for the network card hangs the system, but there must be another module causing my system to hang. The problem is, hwsetup doesn't give ANY output at all, even if I use the -v option to have it verbose.
My problem is - during hardware detection, all kind of different modules are loaded, and one of these modules hard-freezes my system, so I somehow have to find out which of these modules causes a problem so that I can somehow disable it. Please can anybody help me?
