|
|
My dad gave me his old P2 computer which he didn't have much use for anymore.
Now I'm turning it into a webserver \o/
The question is how much cooling the 300mhz cpu really needs, could I dump the fan to make it really quiet? |

slot 1? is that the socket or something?
The install cd identifies it as a klamath.
Ok, so yours was overheating.
What's the thing called in english that you can use instead of a fan?
Metall-object which maximizes CPU to air contact.
Could that be enough? |

mm actually my first language is spanish jej and that thing u mean is a "disipador" jej
slot 1 is a socket and the cpu is inside some kind of plastic box :S dont know how to explain you..
if it is not slot 1 then i dont know but i think u should not take the fan away.. it is risky _________________ TAMMUZ

It's called "kylfläns" in swedish
I guess I'll keep it then, it not very important to keep it silent anyway. |

I think you are talking about a heatsink.
Anyway, it is just about possible to run a P2 with no fan provided that it's not particularly fast (less than 200MHz) and you have a really big heatsink. I successfully ran a PC as a router underclocked to 166MHz with no fan for a couple of years. |
