|
|
I am having trouble getting my console display to run at a decent resolution. I have an onboard nvidia C51PV [GeForce 6150] graphics card. I have tried
Compiling my kernel with VESA framebuffer
Compiling with nvidia framebuffer
Emerging nvidia-kernel
I have followed the installation instructions and the nvidia graphics installation instructions. Neither made any difference.
I have tried the following grub.conf settings plus all possible compounds of them
vga=0x318
video=vesafb
video=nvidiafb
video=vesafb:mode:1024x768x32:rate:75
Nothing seems to make any difference. My screen resolution is always really low (looks like 800x600 or lower). I would be happy if it would run at the resolution the livecd does. I have tried booting the livecd to find out what boot options it uses but couldn't figure out how to do this. Doesn't anyone have any further suggestions as I'm out of ideas? |

You also enabled the framebuffer-console?
Under "Device driver/Graphics drivers/Console drivers" (or something like that) enable "framebuffer console"
That is in addition to vesafb-tng... _________________ Stand back, intruder, or I'll blast you out of space. I am Klixon and I don't want any dealings with you human lifeforms... I'm a cyborg! |

Unfortunately enabling console frame buffer support also makes no difference. I don't get the option of vesafb-tng as I believe it's been deprecated? Erm ... I'm not really sure what to try next. |

I enabled
Device Drivers ->
Graphics support ->
VGA 16 colour support
This made a difference. It seemed to reduce my screen resolution even further and cause the right hand side of screen text to go missing. Any thoughts? |

What do you have in your /boot/grub/grub.conf?
Look if there are some lines like Code: | kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 video=vesafb:ywrapp,mtrr vga=0x31B fbcon=scrollback:128K | and if not put it in ... but please do not forget to look at the grub.conf.example to get a picture!!!!

I am having some sort of similar problem with the framebuffer too. I did the suggestions above and nothing ever works completely fine. I still get the garbled resolution. My monitor is 19" and I have nvidia 6800 GS 512MB defaulting to 1280x1024 at 60Hz.
More info of what I did so far is in this thread:

I just tried nvidia-framebuffer too, nothing works right. |
