Recently I've been working on setting my Inspiron 5100 with Gentoo, and for the most part, everything seemed to be working. I noticed that dmesg output was stating:
Quote:
pcmcia: Detected deprecated PCMCIA ioctl usage.
pcmcia: This interface will soon be removed from the kernel; please expect breakage unless you upgrade to new tools.
pcmcia: see http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/pcmcia.html for details.

I looked at the following guide here on the forums and followed the instructions. When I rebooted my machine with my wireless card plugged in, I was met with the following error:
Quote:
pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia0.0
hostap_cs: Registered netdevice wifi0
unexpected IRQ trap at vector 58
hostap_cs: index 0x01: , irq 11, io 0xd100-0xd13f

Removing the card allowed me to boot without a problem, but if I insert it into the machine, I get a hard lock and have to power everything down. I'm relatively new to Gentoo, so if there are any command outputs that would help, please let me know and I'll post them as soon as I can.

As a quick update, it seems that additional options I'm passing my kernel to manage ACPI events are causing the problem. Currently I am passing "acpi_irq_balance lapic irqpoll" to the kernel. If I only include two of those options, my machine boots without a problem with the PCMCIA card inserted, as well as having no problem inserting it while the machine is on. However, with all three options enabled, I get the cold lock.

To make matters worse, ACPI events no longer register using only two out of three options (screen turning off when the lid closes, etc).

I'm not sure if the options are order-dependent, but I suppose thats the next thing I need to test...
