I have two computers, one thats mine to mess about with as i choose, and one for the family.
I take my compter to my fathers house and connect it to the router no problems.
But when i take it back to my mothers house (disconnecting the family computer and connecting my computer up) i have NO internet connection.
Both houses use the same ISP (NTL) and i remember the computer at my mothers house having similar problems (until somebody put the windows/OS X compatible disc in and went through the installation procedre) I have never had to do anything remotely similar at my fathers house.
Does anybody know how i can get my linux box connected to the net at my mothers house? |

Clone her PC's MAC address onto your Linux box. |

If I change the mac address connected to the modem (normally by pluging the cable in the wrong eth card), I have to reboot the modem to get it to connect. I found this with my NTL modem and a friend of mines up north. You may have tried this but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Actually, when I come to think of it, my mate had her pc switched of for about 20 odd hours too, their [NTL] leases must have a long expiry on them.... |
