I upgraded to XFree86 4.3.0-r2 and all is well. I want to use one of the new mouse icon themes so i changed the /usr/share/cursors/xfree/default/index.theme to use gentoo-silver and restarted X.

The gdm login dialog shows the new pointer. Now when I login to GNOME2 desktop, I have the movable mouse pointer with the new theme and I have what looks like the standard X pointer shaped like a X fixed right in the middle of the desktop. :(

If I go back to the default mouse, the X in the middle of the desktop is gone. It doesn't seem to matter which new mouse pointer theme I pick, I get it and an X in the middle of the desktop. Very annoying. :x

So, how to fix this? The machine is an IBM T21 Thinkpad that uses the Savage IX video chip and the corresponding driver.

regards,

Luciano

Yeah . . . it would be just like the tv show. Except somebody would be watching.

4.3.0 seems to be very buggy.
