Yesterday I did a emerge -u world, which got me new versions of xfree and nvidia-kernel. Today, X (gdm) won't start.

Here's my config and log files:
XF86Config: http://staff.washington.edu/jnicol/linux/XF86Config.html
XFree86.0.log: http://staff.washington.edu/jnicol/linux/xlog.html

As you can see, it's choking on the hsync. I've got a Dell p780, and I believe that 80 is correct. This worked before yesterday's update.

I tried unmerging and remerging both nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx, and ran
Code:
#opengl-update nvidia
#modules-update

dmesg shows the nvidia module loaded on boot with no errors or funny messages.
At this point I'm kindof stumped. Ideas? Suggestions? Need more info?
Oh, one more thing...the nv_check.sh script points out that /dev/nvidia1, /dev/nvidia2, etc don't exist (only nvidia0). Is this a problem? How can I fix it?
Thanks in advance

80 looks not correct, you have to specify a range like :
Code:

HorizSync   30-95
VertRefresh 50-150

It's always something simple, isn't it??

I fiddled around, and got it working. Now I'm using:

Code:
HorizSync  50-80
VertRefresh  50-120

And I'm back in business. Which makes me wonder, where the heck did I get "80" from (I had it written down in my original install notes), and why did it EVER work??

Anyway, thanks for the tip, these forums constantly save me.
