Dispiace, anche se non lo conoscevo e non frequento freenode.
Un chiarimento però, senza alcun tono polemico.
Lavish scrive "un brutto giorno per il free software", ma non conoscendolo e leggendo solo ciò che c'è scritto qui mi sfugge il suo legame "attivo" con il free software. Si dice fosse un utente gentoo, fondatore di una rete irc... ma poi?

dico solo una cosa: tutti i canali IRC ufficiali di gentoo sono su freenode
Ci sarebbe altro da aggiungere, ma penso basti già questo

Ok, non è poco ma da come l'avevi posta avevo inteso che avesse avuto altri ruoli nel mondo opensource.

Oltre ai canali gentoo ci sono anche parecchi canali di supporto al software.
Per avere un ruolo nel mondo opensource non é necessario essere uno sviluppatore da 5000 linee di codice al giorno o essere il presidente dell'OSDL. Anche fare bug repost, gestire/partecipare ai forum o alle chat di supporto é parte di questo mondo. Mettere su e gestire una rete apposita delle dimensioni di freenode é decisamente un grosso sforzo che, onestamente, non é esattamente alla portata di tutti. E probabilmente é molto più utile dell'ennesimo fork di gxyKz (sostituire con il nome di un programma a scelta)
