|
|
Alien Arena 2007 is a fast paced, retro sci-fi themed game jam packed with features such as 37 maps, 5 game modes, 6 game mutators, 10 player characters, 8 weapons(each with an alternate firing mode), and the Galaxy front end that includes a server browser, IRC client, stats lookup, and a buddy list to keep tabs on your favorite players. New for this release is Team Core Assault, a team based mode with frantic action and speed, a dozen brand new maps rich with color and detail, and enormous enhancements to the codebase that improves speed, security, and stability. Enhancements such as weapons stats and winner's podiums add a little new flavor to the game experience. Now at version 6.0, the CRX engine now includes real-time shadows, vastly improved dynamic lighting, more efficient particles and weapon effects, improved shaders, lensflares, fog, music control, and optimizations to make it sleeker and smoother than ever before. With so much content and code being revamped, Alien Arena 2007 bears little resemblance to it's predecessor.
Alien Arena also has a large community that has made available a huge amount of add-on resources, such as maps, models, skins, and other nifty enhancements that are easily applied to the game if the user so wishes. The community can be easily accessed through the Galaxy front end, using it's chat interface, and is always eager to help with any questions or problems running the game. Player stats are globally tracked and accessed either through Galaxy or via the Alien Arena homepage. A number of clans are registered, and each week a tournament is held on Sunday, 6pm Eastern time. Players are advised to show up fifteen minutes beforehand to get the server password. Ladders and cups are in the process of being organized, and more information will be made available soon.
visit http://red.planetarena.org for more details and to download the game! |

Would this go into a local overlay or inserted into the official Portage? _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

it requires xorg 7???
is a radeon 9200se with free software drivers and a sempron 2500+ enough for the game? |

Can someone tell me how to use the eBuild? I've done local ebuilds before but this time it's bein' a pain.
Syntax is wrong or something like that. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

1)download the ebuild
2)move it or copy it to the right location such as /usr/overlay/games-fps/alienarena/
3)ebuild theebuild digest
4)emerge alienarena-something
add PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/overlay" to /etc/make.conf
by the way i see that you have cedega in your signature...how did you get it?

Code: | manchester alienarena # ebuild alienarena-bin-20060831.ebuild digest
Appending /usr/local/portage to PORTDIR_OVERLAY...
!!! /usr/local/portage does not seem to have a valid PORTDIR structure.
|
It gives me this error when I moved it into /usr/local/portage/games-fps/alienarena and tried to digest it. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

I was able to install it. Seems I put it in the alienarena directory, not alienarena-bin.
I don't have any sound, it should have compiled with my USE flags, but I don't know.
I have a Cedega subscription. I got started with 4.3 last year and I used that until my subscription ended in October I believe, right before v5. I continued to use that until 8 months later and now I have v5. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

No, the ebuild doesn't specify that. What makes you think that?
Come on guys, stop being as vague as you possibly can with the "error reports". It's just an ebuild, put it in your local overlay. |

See http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Installing_3rd_Party_Ebuilds
BTW, I'm not on Gentoo at the moment (my motherboard burnt out), but does this ebuild actually work?
In https://bugs.gentoo.org/attachment.cgi?id=72264 I see it trying to untar
Code: | tar -xf alienarena-2006-data.tar.bz2 |
While the filename for alienarena 2007 is "alienarena-2007-x86.run"
There's also a typo in the DESCRIPTION field of the ebuild, it says it's the 2006 version. _________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. |

That's a bad mirror. Change your GENTOO_MIRRORS in /etc/make.conf |
