Hello
selecting another keymap than default during boot (eg. de / 10) workes fine for the console, but gnome has still an english keymap loaded.
That's why it is very difficult to enter the mount points and some other information.
Regards

For the gnome to use se locale you have to set the locales globally.
Did you emerge the system with LINGUAS="de en"?
If yes you have to set the LC globally (LC_ALL=de_DE, LANG=de_DE, LC_MESSAGES=de_DE etc. )
Then the whole system ( X, DM's ) will have de locales |

in gnome-console "setxkbmap (keymap)"
edit xorg.conf and ad "Option XkbLayout keymap" in Section InputDevice |
