i got it to work with out samba! after reading the gentoo printing howto, there is a section that talks about ipp printing. i just hooked it up that way. works perfect since i only have a couple machine to connect. way better than installing samba and having all that cruft on my server for nothing more than sharing a printer.

I wish i didn't need to share files. I'd love to get rid of samba. _________________ A computers attention span is only as long as it's electrical cord (Murphy) |

If all you need to do is share files, why don't you run a FTP server and block the FTP port on your router? _________________ Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.
