Seems to be a common problem on this forum with anyone with an old ThinkPad and/or 3COM 3cxfe575ct, and I have both!
ifconfig only gives me lo
lspci gives me:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 430MX - 82437MX Mob. System Ctrlr (MTSC)
& 82438MX Data Path (MTDP) (rev 02)
00:01.0 ISA Bridge: Intel Corporation 82371FB PIIX ISA [Rriton I] (rev 02)
00:02.0 CardBus Bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1130 (rev 04)
00:02.1 CardBus Bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1130 (rev 04)
00:03.0 VGA compatible controller: Trident Microsystems TGUI 9660/938x/968x (rev d3)
00:05.0 Multimedia video controller: IBM MPEG PCI Bridge (rev 01)
No 3com card
cardctl gives me:
Socket 0: no card
Socket 1: no card
I used gentoo acpi=off pci=noacpi doapm dopcmcia from the F1 kernal option when I booted from the disc. I have tried to modprobe 3c575_cb but tells me it is not found. I see a lot of posts about "emerge pcmcia_cs" after you disable PCMCIA in the kernal. But if I cannot get the laptop connected to the internet in the first place how can I emerge that package? Also at what point would I disable the options in the kernal since I haven't even gotten to the install to install the kernal do make menuconfig and recompile? I know I'm missing something simple here and googleing and searching through the forum here seems to almost work but then in the end I get that same error "pcmcia_socket1: cardbus cards are not supported" when I remove the card and put it back in.

Install Slackware 7.1, don't use gentoo on this laptop. |
