Should the OSS USE flag be used where ever possible? I've seen on many cases here that it increases compatibility. When I enabled it and then rebuilt Firefox and Flash, my sound worked in Flash movies. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

as far as I understand it, OSS was just another sound system, not unlike ALSA. With some packages they were either originally built for OSS, or had that functionality built in. It certainly doesn't hurt to have OSS enabled by default, as ALSA incorporates support for OSS-emulation...
my make.conf USE flags:
Code: | USE="X mozilla nvidia mysql apache2 dvb usb lirc pda bash-completion firefox nsplugin java dvd alsa arts oss opengl vorbis mmx xvmc win32codecs dvdread cdr mythtv v4l v4l2 xmms xvid aac asf xine kde qt hal gtk2 cups ppds" | I know, I have a lot of USE flags |

What is the opengl USE flag for? I'm using the nVidia 9625 Beta drivers for AMD64 and every program that uses them that I try to compile scream because they don't find the opengl API as per Portage. _________________ BSD > SysV > Linux

I don't know if you've seen it already, but gentoo-portage is a pretty good resource for anything USE flag-related. It's at least a starting point.
I don't have a lot of experience with the opengl issue specifically, but I know that the nvidia-drivers package gives some specific instruction about eselecting something to enable opengl... |
