Network distributed storage

Hey all,
I've just come across about 5 "new" machines to add to me home network. Realistically, maybe i'll add two or three, but what I'm wondering is, can I setup some sort of distributed storage system? Almost like a RAID setup, but with the hard drives on different machines.

Any ideas?

Something like [1] maybe. There are different types like ANBD, DNBD, GNBD and ENBD. Google will help you to find information about these.
