So I ran memtest86 on my one machine that always locks up on me right before emerge --sync finishes. I got 5 errors in 1 test pass and wanted to make sure the memory is basically toast, which A) doesn't surprise me B) doesn't make me angry because it's 96MB of memory from ~1998.

The error messages I got were
Code:
Tst   Pass   Failing Address   Good   Bad   Err-Bits   Count   Chan
5   0   00002c39240 – 44.5MB   00000040   80000040   800000000      1
6   0   00002c39244 – 44.5MB   00000400   80000400   800000   4   1

Since it's right smack dab in the middle of my memory it just needs to be junked?

If that is the only error, the 32 MB module should be in working order, though the 64MB module is apparently going bad. If you are interested you could try the BadRAM patchset, otherwise it would seem that new RAM is in order.

I'll take a loook at BadRam and maybe just go that route, but I should probably toss the 32M stick and put in at least another 64M stick, or toss it all and go for 256M total.
